Biography

Marguerite Gabe Braun is an abstract painter living and working in Sonoma County, California. Currently she is studying for an AA in Studio Arts at Santa Rosa Junior College with the intention of transferring to a graduate program.

Statement

I was considered to be the "artist" among the seven children in my family. Inspired by the light and color of nature, I have been painting and drawing my whole life. For the last three years I have focused with more intention on abstract oil painting. Working from photographs and collages, I like to explore the relationships of form, color, and gesture. I am motivated by the process of painting itself. I experience great calm and a sense of integration from focusing intently on a work. Because I begin my paintings with a loosely defined vision of an outcome, it is within that process of painting that a work emerges. It is a call and response between color and form, lines and gestures, that produces the final work.
